RACKABLE
SYSTEMS NAMED "COOL VENDOR" BY LEADING ANALYST FIRM
-- Vendors selected for the "Cool Vendor"
report are innovative, impactful and intriguing --
MILPITAS, Calif., April 20, 2006 –
Rackable Systems, Inc. (Nasdaq: RACK), a leading provider of servers
and storage products for large-scale data centers, today announced
it has been included in the list of "Cool Vendors" in the "Cool
Vendors in Emerging Technologies, 2006" report written by Martin
Reynolds, Jeffery Hewitt, Christopher H. Baum and Jackie Fenn and
published on March 30, 2006 by Gartner, Inc.
According to the report, scalability is the next great IT challenge
for every aspect of IT operations. Data centers are exceeding their
power and cooling capabilities; servers — virtual and real — are
proliferating at a rate only exceeded by the available hardware processing
units to run them. The server arena has grown to more than a $50 billion
worldwide market, annually representing about 7 million server shipments.
More than 90 percent of those shipments are x86-based, and with that
many new servers being installed every year, the focus has turned to
the amount of power they consume in a data center and how much heat
they produce. The larger the end customer, the more concern there is
about wattage drain and thermal output.
Rackable Systems' innovative server designs, superior cooling technologies
and DC power options enable the company to offer customers highly dense
deployments while increasing efficiency and simultaneously reducing
power costs.
"We are honored to receive this recognition by Gartner,"
said Tom Barton, President and CEO of Rackable Systems. "We believe
the 'Cool Vendor' designation reflects our ongoing commitment to provide
our customers with server and storage solutions that meet the real-life
needs of today's most complex data centers."
About Gartner's Cool Vendors Selection
Process
Gartner's listing does not constitute an exhaustive list of vendors
in any given technology area, but rather is designed to highlight interesting,
new and innovative vendors, products and services. Gartner disclaims
all warranties, expressed or implied, with respect to this research,
including any warranties of merchantability or fitness of a particular
purpose.
Gartner defines a cool vendor as a company that offers technologies
or solutions that are: Innovative, enabling users to do things they
couldn't do before; Impactful, have, or will have, business impact
(not just technology for the sake of technology); Intriguing, have
caught Gartner's interest or curiosity in approximately the past six
months.
