RACKABLE SYSTEMS JOINS GLOBAL INDUSTRY CONSORTIUM
FOCUSED ON DATA CENTER ENERGY MANAGEMENT

-- Rackable Systems' Founding Membership in The Green Grid Highlights the Company's
Commitment to Efficient, Power Conscious Data Center Solutions --

MILPITAS, Calif., April 27, 2006 – Rackable Systems, Inc. (Nasdaq: RACK), a leading provider of servers and storage products for large-scale data centers, today announced its participation as a founding sponsor of The Green Grid, a global organization focused on reducing growing power and cooling demands in data centers worldwide.

The Green Grid (www.thegreengrid.org) is an open, global consortium whose goals are to decrease data center and other IT facility energy usage patterns by defining and propagating best practices in data center operation, construction and design. With support from the Environmental Protection Agency and Alliance to Save Energy, The Green Grid is ultimately intended to serve as an interactive resource for IT professionals; a forum for sharing proven practices in data center energy management as well as working with other organizations to identify new industry-standards and metrics related to energy.

"Thermal efficiency and reduced power consumption have been a key focus for Rackable Systems since our company's inception," said Tom Barton, CEO of Rackable Systems. "As a pioneer in designing and developing energy efficient servers and storage, we are excited by the opportunity to further contribute to the industry by helping to direct the efforts of The Green Grid."

Rackable Systems' award-winning chassis and cabinet designs enable customers to improve thermal efficiency, even in the most complex IT environments. The company launched it's first Distributed DC Power solutions in 2003, aimed at reducing power consumption and improving server reliability in any AC- or DC-based data center.

"The Green Grid is pleased to have the support and commitment of Rackable Systems as we work with one of the world's top server manufacturers to champion best practices and energy management in the data center," said Kevin Knox, vice president, Commercial Business at AMD, a founding sponsor of The Green Grid. "Rackable Systems has clearly demonstrated its leadership in providing efficient, low power, high performance systems, and we look forward to working with Rackable Systems and the other members of The Green Grid to drive change in the way enterprises approach power."
