RACKABLE
SYSTEMS ANNOUNCES NEW LINE OF SERVERS
FEATURING DUAL-CORE INTEL® XEON® PROCESSOR 5100 SERIES
-- Highly Efficient Rack-Mount Servers Now Feature
Low Wattage Dual-Core Xeon Processors
for Excellent Value Per Watt Per Square Foot --
MILPITAS, Calif., June 26, 2006 –
Rackable Systems, Inc. (Nasdaq: RACK), a leading provider of servers
and storage products for large-scale data centers, today announced
availability of servers based on the new Dual-Core Intel Xeon processor
5100 series (code named 'Woodcrest'). Known for its award-winning,
highly efficient servers, the new designs enable Rackable Systems
to expand its leadership in being able to offer products designed
to reduce data center operational expenses.
A Rackable Systems C1000 1U rack-mount server with two dual-core Xeon
5100 series processors draws a peak of a mere 185 watts at the system
level while achieving high levels of compute performance.1 Available
with Rackable Systems' industry-leading DC power technology, the new
line of servers features customizable 1U, 2U and 3U rack-mount configurations
designed to optimize power consumption and reduce the cost of data
center operations.
"The new Dual-Core Intel Xeon processor 5100 series marks a significant
milestone in Xeon technology, and enables us to offer our customers
more choice than ever before," said Tom Barton, CEO of Rackable
Systems.
"Rackable Systems' new line of servers demonstrates our continued
leadership in being able to offer outstanding value per watt per square
foot for the world's most complex data center deployments."
In addition to reduced power consumption and better performance, servers
featuring the new Dual-Core Intel Xeon processor 5100 series benefit
from fully buffered DIMMs, which provide a new memory interface for
faster data transmission, including improved signal integrity and error
detection. System expansion capability is now provided via PCI-Express
allowing for traditional options such as Ethernet, Disk Controller
(RAID), Infiniband and Fibre Channel as well as investment protection
for future upgrades.
"The combination of Rackable Systems' highly dense, reliable
servers and the new Dual-Core Intel Xeon processor 5100 series provides
an innovative solution for large-scale data centers around the world.
This solution allows customers to take performance-per-watt to unprecedented
new levels,"
said Kirk Skaugen, vice president, Digital Enterprise Group, Intel.
Designed using industry-standard components with an open architecture
approach, Rackable Systems' broad range of servers and storage products
are delivered fully racked and cabled in cabinet sizes holding up to
88 systems with up to 352 processing cores. Ideal for applications
ranging from Web hosting to High Performance Computing, Rackable Systems'
unique designs feature easier serviceability, maximum density and greater
thermal efficiency to reduce overall operational expenditures.
